Having trouble finding motivation to start a workout or eat healthy? Honestly, waiting for the the moment you are motivated to do so won't help you in the long run. Instead of looking for motivation, try changing your mindset and commit to your health and fitness. Below are some tips to help you out :)
Find your why
Change your definition of health and fitness. You do not need to spend hours on the treadmill, think that you need to burn off a certain amount of calories, eat a bunch of kale all day, or do any of it because you have to. You don't have to, you get to! Why are you getting started? What are your reasons for wanting this? How would you feel if you were the best version of yourself? What would you be able to do now that you wouldn't have been able to do before? When thinking about your why you want to reframe you wording with positive goals, a growth mindset, and no negative self talk. Goals are great, but finding your why gives your goals a deeper meaning.
Create a support system
Share your health and fitness goals and your why with someone. Family and friends can help you stay accountable, give you encouragement, or may even join you!
Take small steps
Having goals are great to have. Create a vision board, set little reminders around your space, pick out mantras to say to yourself that align with your goals. Do all the go-getter things! However, sometimes those goals may feel too far out of reach, overwhelming, So let's break them down. Think S.M.A.R.T. goals! (Specific, Measureable, Attaintable, Realistic, Time-based) If you are not a runner but want to start, you most likely wouldn't just go outside one day and run a marathon. It would be wise to start with the first mile and build from there. It's all about breaking things down into bite size pieces, creating the roadmap, and the process of how you are going to achieve these goals.
Plan it out
At the beginning of you week, schedule out your workouts and meals. Lay out your workout gear ahead of time and meal prep. It will make you week a lot easier. If you plan and schedule your workouts and healthy meals like an appointment, you are more likely to follow through. Make it important because your health and fitness DOES matter
Stay consistent but be flexible
Consistency is key to creating new habits and healthy lifestyle. Life will happen though and obstacles might stand in your way. The day (or sometimes week) may not go the way you planned and that's okay. Roll with it! The little things still count. What can you do each day that still moves you forward? Focus on staying hydrated. Any workout is better than no workout, even if you can squeeze in a few minutes here and there. Any healthy food is better than no healthy food. What fruit or vegetable can you add to your plate? You don't want to have that "all or nothing" mentality.
The hardest part is just to get yourself to start. It may be difficult at times but try to stay positive! Just like with anything new, it takes time to get into a groove. Remind yourself that you get to workout, you get to eat healthy, you get to take care of your body.
You are stronger than you think and you can do this!
